Full immersion in the beauties of West Liguria

For the first days of September, Travel Designer and Blogger Valeria Salvai proposes a short but intense itinerary to discover the beauties of West Liguria and more specifically the area of the Cinque Terre.

The sites selected for this trip are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because, as you read on the website www.unesco.it, their “represents a cultural landscape of extraordinary value as it testifies to the harmonious interaction between people and nature to produce a landscape of exceptional scenic quality, Illustrating a way of life that has existed for hundreds of years and continues to play an important socio-economic role in community life.”

The characteristics of travel

A trip designed for a small group of women, accompanied by Valeria herself.

An active holiday of four intense days, with beautiful panoramic treks.

itinerary

Portovenere is one of the two “gates” of the Cinque Terre Park, the other is Levanto. And it is from Levanto that the excursion will start. After three hours of walking you will arrive in the pretty Monterosso al mare, from whose small station you will take the train to reach the hotel.

On the second day you will walk along the so-called blue path, ending in Monterosso with a must tasting of typical products and the famous local wine, the Sciacchetrà.

The next day you will walk along a beautiful path, from Riomaggiore to Portovenere, characterized by the spectacular views typical of this coast, from its woods overlooking the blue sea. Once back, the travelers will be able to discover, together with a guide, the history of Portovenere, whose existence is already attested in Roman times. Various monuments to be admired, religious and not, including the charming church of San Pietro, built in 1189, and the remains of the castle Doria, which once dominated the village and its coast, and still allows you to admire the panorama in all its splendor. There is also a stop at the magical Byron’s Cave, located under the aforementioned monuments. Legend has it that the English poet, who lived in Liguria in the early 1820s, took refuge there in search of inspiration.

The last day is scheduled for a trekking in the varied nature of Palmaria, the largest island of Liguria, as well as the only inhabited. Between areas of Mediterranean scrub and woods, you will find disused fortifications, including some from the last century, and in the southern part of the island, a portoro quarry, a precious black marble whose extraction ceased a few decades ago.

In short, an itinerary that allows you to enjoy places of great beauty, where the monuments are an added value.
